108 bike lanes not worth sacrificing homes, businesses

This letter is in response to Mr. Bill Holcomb’s letter to the editor, which was published in the May 23 edition of the Bulletin.

Mr. Holcomb, displacing people from their homes and successful businesses and scarring historic properties along one 3-mile stretch of road so you can ride your bike is not for the greater good.

There are plenty of great bike roads all throughout the county — ask any of our numerous cyclists. You may find our roads rather narrow but there have been zero bicycle accidents in the past five years.

“Good hearted people who sincerely care for the greatest good for the greatest number,” would not be trying to screw their neighbors out of their land for a bicycle lane. Should 16 businesses be shut down because you want to ride your bike?

The answer to your question is respectfully, no, the widening of 108 in that 3-mile stretch between the hospital and 176 will not be good for Polk County.
