More than 45 students from Polk County High School came together on Saturday to package more than 11,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger.

The event was sponsored by Polk County High’s Key Club, Interact and HOSA, with a portion of the money coming from the Rotary Club of Tryon. The meals are set to go to Haitian schools, where children will be fed and will get an education to help break the cycle of poverty.

“I am so proud of these students,” said HOSA sponsor Pam Arrowood. “With all the weather events happening on Friday night and early Saturday morning, these students still came out to participate. Many arrived at school still worried about the weather and what else might occur. However, they still came. I feel that the event gave them to opportunity to help others at a time when they could do not nothing about what was happening around them.

“We want to thank the Rotary Club of Tryon and the school administration, both at the high school and central office, for their support.”
