Care Kitchen marks sixth birthday in May

Six years ago this month, the Polk Baptist Association Care Kitchen was just a dream.
The idea was first discussed by a committee from local churches that felt there was a need for providing a good meal to those in the area.
Following several weeks of planning, the first no-cost Friday lunch was served on May 4, 2012.
All are welcome to the lower level of the Polk Baptist Association Office, 208 Blanton St., Columbus, every Friday 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The meal is free but donations are accepted. Churches and groups are encouraged to collect and deliver nonperishables for use in the Care Kitchen.
During the spring and summer, Care Kitchen asks that residents plant extra tomatoes and vegetables in their garden and to think of donating a portion of the yield to the project.
