LANDRUM — A man from Moore, South Carolina, was killed Friday afternoon after his car went down an embankment along U.S. 176 just outside Landrum.
Greenville County Coroner Kent Dill said the driver, Ricky James Brodie, 62, was removed from the vehicle, with Brodie going into cardiac arrest when he was placed in the ambulance.
EMS crews treated Brodie on scene for about 25 minutes before he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Brodie was driving a 1993 Pontiac. He was heading west on U.S. 176 at Bird Mountain Hill, when his car went left off the road, down the embankment and struck a tree, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The case is being investigated by the Greenville County Coroner’s Office and highway patrol.
The highway patrol said Brodie was not wearing a seat belt. Brodie was not ejected from the vehicle or entrapped in the vehicle.
An autopsy on Brodie was scheduled to be done over the weekend.
