The Polk County FFA Chapter took part in the North Carolina FFA Poultry Evaluation Career Development Event on March 29 at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds.
Schools taking part in the event evaluated the production, processing and merchandising phases of the poultry industry, as well as identified various industry components.
During the competition, students also evaluate live birds, present oral reasons and place a class of ready-to-cool broilers.
Polk County’s team won first place for the West Region, and 21st in the state in the 83-team field. In individual competition, senior Haley Robinson placed third overall, in a field of 321 participants.
The team has been sponsored this school year by Tim Edwards Farm and Landscaping Supplies.
