On Thursday, Feb. 22, Steps to HOPE participated in Polk County Middle School’s annual career fair.
During the fair, 8th grade students were given the opportunity to speak to representatives from area businesses. Steps to HOPE’s Jessica Powell, outreach program coordinator, Paula Culbreth, public relations and publicity, and Cindy Wicklund, Client Services and administrative assistant, met with students and explained about Steps to HOPE, Second Chance Thrift Store, and what it is like to work for a nonprofit organization.
Students played PLINKO for prizes and were given goodie bags that included information about services available at Steps to HOPE and a card explaining what teen dating violence is, how to recognize it and where to get help.
Outreach programs are designed to be approachable, interactive and fun so that people will know they can find a friendly face at Steps to HOPE.
Steps to HOPE is the domestic violence and sexual assault center located in Columbus serving Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina. If you or someone you know is being abused, or if you wish to sponsor programs like this, please call 828-894-2340.
