Three organists will perform along with vocalists and instrumentalists during a special public program of the Foothills Music Club, scheduled for March 8 at the Tryon Congregational Church.

E. Leslie Raymond, organist at the First Baptist Church of Tryon, and Susie Mahnke, organist at Holy Cross Episcopal Church of Tryon, will perform, as well as Carole Bartol, who, like Mahnke, is a member of the music club.

The four organ compositions on the program include works by noted organist-composers of past and present, from Dutch musician Jan Pieter Sweelinck in the 17th century to a contemporary, Michael Burkhardt. A composition by Johann Sebastian Bach, possibly the most famous organist of all time, is on the list too.

It was Bach, the quintessential church musician who said famously, “The aim and end of all music should be none other than the glory of God.”

Ensembles of recorders, bassoon, flute, and handbells, plus vocal numbers, will fill out the program.
