The Rotary Club of Tryon is celebrating its 15th year of providing books for 425 students grades preschool thru 5 at the Polk  Central Elementary School.  The RIF or “Reading Is Fundamental Program” has given out over 19000 books during the length of the program.  These books are given to the students as a gift from the Tryon Rotary Foundation.  Three times a year Rotarians read to each class and assist a child with book selection for them to take home. The program was begun by David Hosick, Carolyn Jones and the late Bill Jones.  Carolyn with the help of 10 to15 other Rotarians and their wives participate in the reading and distributions three times each year. Last week a special reading was done by Sally Hursey reading from her book “Molly to the Rescue”.  Rotarian Larry Boyd graciously provided these special books.  Pictured are Larry Boyd, Sally Hursey, Lib and Charles McKeller, Carolyn Jones, Carole Browning, Louis McCray and Polk students.
