Columbus Baptist Church Good Neighbor Store renovations

Published 4:04 pm Thursday, February 8, 2018

It all began when a group of ladies from Columbus Baptist Church decided to hold a “rummage sale” in order to raise funds for a church project.  Since then, the Good Neighbor Store has expanded into a community outreach, providing clothing and other items at greatly reduced prices.

The store has always been missions-minded, reaching out to help those in need, e.g., survivors of house fires or other catastrophic events.  Helping others will continue to be a strong focus going forward.

Over the years, many hardworking and dedicated volunteers have given their time and effort to keep the Good Neighbor Store open and running smoothly.  The original volunteers are no longer with us, but we are continually blessed by those who carry the torch.  We are grateful for their service.

The time has come for a much needed renovation of the store.   The rooms will get a fresh coat of paint and other features will be added.  Volunteers are examining each article of clothing and other items to make sure they are up to standard.

Many in the community have asked when the store will re-open.  The plan is to have a “Pre-Opening Winter Sale” which will occur in the Fellowship Hall (right next to the Good Neighbor Store) on February 15th through March 3rd.  The volunteers have a couple of reasons for reducing the inventory:  to make room for spring clothing, and to have less to carry back into the store!

As always, donations of clean, gently used clothing, kitchen and household items, small appliances, computers, TVs and furniture are appreciated.  The goal of the Good Neighbor Store is to serve God by blessing others, and we sincerely thank our Polk County neighbors for the role you play.
