Mountain Heritage sweeps visiting Polk County in WHC basketball action

Mountain Heritage built a 38-12 halftime lead Wednesday and went on to post a 67-22 victory over Polk County in Western Highlands Conference girls basketball play in Burnsville.
The Cougars (17-1, 6-0), currently the state’s top-rated team in the MaxPreps 2A computer rankings, put together a 22-6 run in the second period to take command of the game. Polk County dropped to 1-15, 0-5 with the loss.
Autumn Owen led Polk County with 10 points, with Bella Marino scoring four and Kendall Hall, Mariah Overholt, Sara Muse and Rachael Davis each adding two.
The Polk County varsity boys team suffered a 100-55 defeat as Mountain Heritage, also ranked No. 1 in the MaxPreps state 2A ratings, improved to 14-1, 6-0. Polk County dropped to 2-14, 0-5 with the loss.
