Owen joins Polk County’s 1,000-point club during road defeat

Polk County senior Autumn Owen scored the 1,000th point of her career during Friday’s 62-44 setback for the Wolverines against Owen in Swannanoa.
Owen became the fourth girls basketball player in school history to reach the 1,000-point mark, scoring 11 points in the defeat.
Owen now has 1,005 points for her career. She could move into second place on Polk County’s career scoring list as she needs just 80 points to surpass the 1,084 points recorded by Kim Staley.
Hayley Kropp owns Polk County’s career scoring record with 1,637 points. Brianna Cunningham is the other Wolverine with 1,000 career points.
Ansley Lynch scored 19 points in the loss, which dropped Polk County to 1-11 overall, 0-1 in Western Highlands Conference play. Mariah Overholt had five points, with Sara Muse scoring three, Julia Griffin and Kristen Hall each scoring two and Bella Marino adding one.
Led by Kendal Marlowe’s 14 points, Owen improved to 12-2, 1-0.
