Beauford C. Arledge

Beauford Clem Arledge, 91, of Mill Spring, N.C. passed away, Thursday evening, December 21, 2017 at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, N.C.

Born in the Green River Cove community of Polk County, he was the son of the late Benjamin Harrison Arledge and Dora Bishop Arledge. His beloved wife of 63 years, Helen Blythe Arledge, recently died on November 6, 2017. Mr. Arledge served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from a career as an electrician. Mr. Arledge enjoyed woodworking, gardening and served his community in many capacities. In 1975, with the desire to preserve the history of the Green River Cove Community, he published the book,“The Stories of Green River Cove.” A lifelong member of Silver Creek Baptist Church, he was a deacon and Sunday School teacher.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his son-in-law, Rick Howell, a brother, Hugh Arledge, and a sister, Nelma Jackson.

Surviving are a daughter, Susan Howell of Tryon, N.C.; a son, Roger Arledge (Joyce) of Travelers Rest, S.C.; one sister, Grace Metcalf of Mill Spring, N.C.; four grandsons, Jeffrey Howell (Myra), Josh Howell (Amberly), Daniel Arledge (Shay), and David Arledge (Kami), and three great grandchildren, Brady Howell, Jaxon Howell, and Caroline Howell. Also surviving are many caring nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2017 in the Silver Creek Baptist Church, Mill Spring, N.C. with Rev. Robert Hefner and Dr. Chris Osborn officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Polk County Veteran Memorial Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends prior to the service Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the church.
