There will be a few rough days filled with lessons ahead for Polk County’s young girls basketball team.
Tuesday night served as one of them.
East Henderson kept its perfect record intact, pulling away to hand Polk County a 58-33 defeat in non-conference girls basketball action at Polk.
The Eagles (6-0) led just 12-7 after a quarter, but began to widen the gap in the second period, building a 24-15 lead at the half.
East Henderson then took advantage of Polk County turnovers in the third quarter and ran its halfcourt offense efficiently to pad the margin to 16 entering the final eight minutes.
With five games ahead in the next eight days and a handful of players under the weather, Wolverine head coach Brandy Alm opted to substitute liberally in the fourth quarter.
Autumn Owen had nine points and five rebounds to lead the Wolverines, with Sara Muse scoring six. Julia Griffin added four points, Ansley Lynch had three points and four rebounds, Paulina Harden had three points and Mariah Overholt, Kristen Hall, Rachael Davis and Willow Arkell each finished with two points.
Polk County continues its run of six games in nine days on Wednesday, traveling to North Buncombe.
