Barbara A. Belthoff

Barbara A. Belthoff, 81, of Tryon, N.C., passed away Tuesday morning, December 5, 2017, at Mission Hospital, Asheville, N.C., following a brief illness.

Born in Teaneck, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Joseph J. Erdmann and Ann Elizabeth Donnelly Erdmann. Mrs. Belthoff was a loyal member of the former music group “The Carolines” and past member of the Tryon Women’s Golf Association as well as a member of Second Wind Hall of Fame. She was an energetic volunteer at St. Luke’s Hospital, Columbus, N.C., where she recently won an award for volunteering 5,250 hours. Mrs. Belthoff also was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Tryon, N.C.

Surviving is her husband of 61 years, Richard C. Belthoff, and three sons: Richard C. Belthoff Jr. (Rebecca) of Weddington, N.C., James R. Belthoff (Linda) of Boise, Idaho, and John J. Belthoff of Budd Lake, N.J. Also surviving are eight grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2017, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Tryon, N.C., with Father Roger Arnsparger officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Hospital Foundation, 101 Hospital Drive, Columbus, NC 28722, or to a charity of your choice.
