Clifford Mallory Walden

Clifford Mallory Walden, 90 of Landrum, SC went to his heavenly home on November 30, 2017. A lifelong resident of Landrum, he was the son of Dr. A. R. Walden and Sallie Whiteside Walden.
He graduated from Landrum High School and finished Clemson University in Agriculture Engineering. He later served his country in the Navy at the time of WWII. He was a mason for 63 years holding many positions at the Landrum Lodge 278. He was Grand Marshall, Worship Master two times, District Deputy and Grand Steward.
He was a self-made man where he built and owned a drug store, worked as a salesman for International Harvester, then built his own furniture and appliance store that he operated for 40 years. After retirement he spent his time repairing home and garden tools especially his favorite Wheel Horse tractors.
He was a Christian and member of Landrum First Baptist for 83 years. He served as a Deacon, Trustee and Sunday School Teacher for over 32 years. The class is named “The Clifford Walden Sunday School Class.” He was also instrumental in starting the pre-school program at Landrum First Baptist.
He served as a Spartanburg County School District 1 Trustee Board Member for over 25 years. He served in many capacities one being Instrumental on establishing and developing the “Swofford Career Center.” He also established “The Walden Scholarship Program.”
He was predeceased by two brothers, A. Russell Walden and Dr. Burt N. Walden and a sister Virginia W. Davis. He was also predeceased by four loving members of his immediate family. His wife, Isabelle Ruth Harley Walden, one daughter, Julie Amanda Walden, two sons, Cliff M. Walden and Stephen Harley Walden.
He is survived by two daughters, Sallie Ruth Walden Coleman (John) and Isabelle V. Walden Hegquist (Mitchell); four grandchildren, Dr. Sallie Ruth Areford (Matthew), Katherine H. Stevens (Parker), Anna H. Muthig (Christopher) and Stephen Carl Walden Hegquist and two great grandsons, Charles Coleman Areford and Daniel Walden Stevens. He has many nieces and nephews that are very beloved and Nancy C. Gaulden, a loved family friend.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00pm Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Landrum First Baptist Church. Burial in the Landrum Cemetery will be private.
