Save the date for “100 x 100” at Upstairs Artspace

The staff and volunteers at Upstairs Artspace are beginning the preparations for one of the most unique holiday shopping experiences in the foothills – the Upstairs Artspace gallery’s “100 x 100” exhibit and sale. A highly anticipated part of the holiday season each year, this year’s sale of original works by 100 of the area’s artists will include some three-dimensional works as well. The public is invited to attend the reception and sale, 5 – 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9.
Adding to the evening’s fun is the challenge of not knowing who created each work of art. The pieces are signed only on the back, making them anonymous until the closing reception, Saturday, Dec. 16, when the work is picked up by the buyer and turned over for the “big reveal.” The excitement level is high for everyone — the potential buyers guessing who made the art they like, for the artists watching to see who takes home their work.
“Because of the anonymity, some artists have taken the opportunity to expand their repertoire, creating work in a style or medium other than that for which they are known,” said Executive Director Michele Deudne. “There is a huge variety of art, and those who participate as buyers have great choices, and a little bit of mystery in the bargain. We are most grateful to the artists for their generous contributions to this important event for the gallery.”
The doors open for viewing at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, and sales begin promptly at 6 p.m.The Upstairs Artspace is a non-profit, 501c3 and is supported in part by a grant from the Polk County Community Foundation and a grant from the North Carolina Council of the Arts as well as from private donations, sales of art, and fundraising events.
