Polk JV girls blast Brevard in season opener

Polk County’s junior varsity girls cruised Monday to a 52-12 win over Brevard in the Wolverines’ season opener in Brevard.

Polk County opened a 17-1 lead by the end of the first quarter, then extended that advantage to 32-5 by halftime.

“We are excited for a win to start us off, but we know there is much work to be done for continuous improvement throughout the season,” said Polk County head coach Amber Thompson.

Eleven different players scored for the Wolverines, led by Marissa Twitty’s eight points. Kaylin Jenkins and Savannah Parris each added seven while Jennifer Guerrero finished with six. Also scoring for Polk were:

Alana Jergenson 4, Amy Chupp 4, Emmie McDowell 4, Makayla Staley 4, Anna McFadden 4, Paulina Harden 2, Hannah Jenne 2

Polk County returns to action on Wednesday, hosting R-S Central at 4 p.m.
