COLUMBUS – Hwy. 108 LLC has submitted a petition to the Town of Columbus to annex 136.85 acres into town limits.

The property is owned by Clary Hood and John Montgomery, according to the Town of Columbus, and includes land adjacent to Milliken’s Hatch Mill that is currently being cleared and more land across Hwy. 108 that has already been cleared.

The parcel is currently for sale.

Columbus Town Council met Thursday, Nov. 16 and accepted the petition for annexation, directed the clerk to certify the petition, which was completed and set a public hearing for the voluntary annexation for the town’s December meeting, tentatively scheduled for Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. at Columbus Town Hall.

The property is contiguous to town limits. Property nearby includes the parcels now owned by Polk County, where a new jail is being constructed. Polk County purchased 19 acres from Hwy. 108 LLC last year for the new jail as well as another small parcel off Park Street.

The 136.85 acres requested for voluntary annexation is one parcel that is split by Hwy. 108.

If Columbus approves the annexation into town limits, Columbus will receive both tax revenue from the property as well as water and sewer fees once connections to town services are made.
