George Sain

George Leonard Sain, 91, of Columbus, N.C., went home to be with the Lord, Monday evening, November 20, 2017 at his home.
Born July 10, 1926 in Holbert Cove, he was the son of the late William Zach and Lettie Thompson Sain.
George was a man of many hats: husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was the husband of 68 years of Helen Arledge Sain. George and Helen had four children, a son and three daughters.
George had a great love for God, God came first, family second. George was veteran of the United States Air Force serving in World War II. He also loved to play golf. George was a member and deacon of Silver Creek Baptist Church, a mason (Horse Creek Masonic Lodge #719), a Shriner (Hendersonville Shrine Club), and the former commander and member of VFW Post #10349, Mill Spring, N.C. George was also a member of the Polk County Veteran’s Memorial Honor Guard.
George loved life. He was a good man, always kind and giving. He never met a stranger.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Helen A. Sain; a son, Scott (Gwen) Sain; two daughters, Arlene (Johnny) Shelton and Robin Blackwell; six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; a brother, William Zach Sain, Jr.; two sisters, Cornelia Searcy and Edna Lewis. Also surviving is an honorary daughter, Judy.
George was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Scoggins, two sisters, Sarah Davis and Minnie Conner, and a brother, Arthur Sain.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 22, 2017 in Silver Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Rob Hefner and Dr. Chris Osborn officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1–1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
