Memorial to African American Doughboys is long overdue

Alan Leonard is to be commended for his eloquent and informative Polk County history lesson (Polk County’s forgotten African American Doughboys, Tryon Daily Bulletin November 12, 2017).  I couldn’t agree more that “The current 100th anniversary of world War I would be an appropriate time to add a long overdue memorial to the service and sacrifice of Polk county’s forgotten African American Doughboys.”  I hope it will come to pass.
