Landrum’s Carter and Price sign to play college softball

Landrum head softball coach Casey Green will have some large shoes to fill once the upcoming season is over. Two of her star players, Emily Carter and Sarah Price, just signed their intent to play softball on scholarships to Division One colleges. Carter will play for the College of Charleston, while Price will perform for USC Upstate.

Landrum’s 2018 softball season will be the last featuring the talents of Carter, Price and four other seniors.

“You’re losing two Division One players, six in all,” Green observed. “Since Sarah was in seventh grade, we said senior year was the year to go for it.”

Green noted that both Carter and Price will probably play outfield at first, but remarked that both have played well at several positions. This spring, Price will try to extend her current 81-game hitting streak.

“We are very, very excited,” exclaimed Cardinal Athletic Director Mike Gentry. LHS Principal Jason McCraw pointed out that he wore a tie with gold in it, “for two gold girls.”

The signings were held Nov. 10 in the auditorium, rather than in the hall outside, as both students attracted large entourages of teammates, family, players and coaches.
