Scarecrow winners announced for Landrum’s annual contest

The Peanuts cartoon gang – the scarecrow version – won first place in Landrum’s fifth annual Great Scarecrow Contest.

The staff at the City of Landrum created the well-loved cartoon characters of Lucy, Charlie Brown, Linus, Peppermint Patty and Snoopy hanging out in the pumpkin patch.

A record number of votes – 1,600+ – were cast this year.  Winners were announced Tuesday night at the Depot following the costume contest which was concluded the Halloween Stroll and Fall Festival

Landrum Drug Company took second place with a replica pill bottle scarecrow which was displayed in the park across from The Hare and Hound.

Third place went to Charming Grooming on North Trade where a scarecrow was trimming a skeleton dog.

Rounding out the top ten were the following:  Hospice Thrift Barn, fourth; The Hare & Hound, fifth; Landrum Fire Department, sixth; The News Leader, seventh; Carruth Furniture, eighth; First Citizens Bank, ninth; and Southern Delights, tenth.

The Landrum Community Events Team sponsored the contest which attracted 44 entries and is an event enjoyed by visitors and residents each year.
