Marian Brett Unger

Marian Brett Unger, 85, of Spartanburg, S.C., died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born Nov. 16, 1931, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Max and Dorothy Lato Brett and widow of Irving Arthur Unger.

Mrs. Unger received her Bachelor’s Degree at Augusta College. She also received her first Master’s Degree from Georgia State University and second Master’s Degree from Bread Loaf College in Vermont. She was a retired educator, a member of Temple B’nai Israel, a lifetime member of Hadassah, an avid reader and Bridge player.

Survivors include her daughters, Sandy Gordin and husband Stephen of Inman, S.C., Carol Unger and husband Jose of Johns Creek, Ga., Lisa Schoer and husband Jack of Cumming, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Steve Brett of Augusta, Ga.; and niece, Rebecca Siebel of Inman, S.C.

A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, at Temple B’nai Israel, with Rabbi Yossi Liebowitz officiating.

No flowers please. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple B’nai Israel, 146 Heywood Ave., Spartanburg, SC 29302, or a charity of one’s choice.
