What do you do when you accumulate 10 years of tremendous activity? The Saluda Community Land Trust decided to get super organized and once again, the Polk County Community Foundation came to their aid.

SCLT’s by-laws mandate that 90 percent of all contributions go into the land fund rather than to administration. After 10 years of land acquisition, preservation, the creation of parks, trails and green-ways, and numerous volunteer and community activities, it was evident that someone was needed to put everything in proper order for historical, present and future purposes.

This year, through a grant from PCCF, Debbie Hahn was contracted to organize everything in the office, answer the telephone, work on mailings, and conduct volunteer orientation and training. Debbie brings a business background and experience as a SCLT volunteer to the job and has made board members’ work much easier.

SCLT is grateful to the PCCF for assisting with these operating expenses so that the volunteers can continue to do what they do best: to preserve Saluda’s rural character by preserving its farm and forest land, encouraging best land practices, and connecting Saluda’s people, land, and community.
