Shooting in Campobello leaves woman dead

CAMPOBELLO – A Campobello, S.C. man is in custody after being charged with murder after a shooting took the life of an Inman, S.C. woman.

Donald Anthony Partaka, 59, of Patterson Road, Campobello, was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office reports.

The victim was Laura Ashley Hood, 34, of Inman, according to the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.

Deputies said Partaka called 911 and reported that he shot an unknown intruder, according to reports.

The shooting occurred around 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11.

The sheriff’s office said Partaka and Hood were co-workers and the motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

The coroner’s office said Thursday morning it was completing an exam to determine the exact cause of death and they had confirmed at least one gunshot wound.

Partaka is being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center under no bond.
