COLUMBUS – During the October 9 meeting of the Polk County School Board, Dean Trakas of Brady Trakas Architecture in Tryon explains a drawing of the proposed landscape work for a property next to the new site for the Tryon Little Theater (TLT). TLT is proposing to lease the property as a parking area. Trakas said TLT’s intentions are to create a park-like area on the property and add a handicap accessible walking path between the property and Tryon Elementary School.

During public comment, TLT set designer and former board member, Lindsey Moore, said their goal is to include school programs, not only for Tryon Elementary School which is located next the site, but to make the facility available for arts education in all Polk County schools. He added that the property also contained an old stone retaining wall and a “heritage tree” they planned to save and incorporate into the landscape design.

Polk County School Board Chairman Geoffrey Tennant asked the facilities committee and the school board attorney, Philip Feagan, to meet with the Tryon Little Theater representatives to discuss the proposal in more depth.
