The Polk Central High School Class of 1967 50th Reunion Committee comprised of John Blanton, Diana Edwards Blanton, Teresa Johnson Taylor-Witt, Danny Morris, Roger Newman and Terry Taylor finally saw its six months of planning come to an end this past weekend. 

On Friday night, a group attended the Polk County High School Homecoming Game.  Those attending included John Thompson and Terry Taylor, two of our 1966 football team captains, and our Homecoming Queen, Diana Edwards Blanton. On Saturday morning, a golf outing was held at Red Fox Country Club for all those interested. In the afternoon, 19 took a very informative tour of Polk County’s Historic Green River Plantation on Coxe Road.

The 50th Reunion celebration culminated on Saturday evening at the Green River Plantation Gate House with 40 classmates and 29 guests attending. Our Class President, Diana gave the Welcome.  Following the Invocation by Classmate Aaron Pruitt, everyone enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner.

After dinner, 1960’s CD’s were awarded as door prizes to those answering 1967 trivia questions.  DJ, David Swain, was on hand through the courtesy of Classmate Captain Mark Walker (USN Ret.), to provide 1960’s music for the group’s listening and dancing pleasure.  It was discovered some in the group still had “moves” – Mark and Lena Jackson were proof.

An interesting and surprising highlight for the evening was a DVD produced for the committee by Sterling Johnson of Sterling Video.  It depicted happenings at Polk Central in 1966-1967 including music and events of the time. It saluted our 39 guys who entered the military during the Vietnam era.  The DVD was dedicated to the 19 classmates we have lost from 1965 to the present.  Considering its hard to watch a DVD and talk about what you have been doing for the past 50 years, the committee presented each classmate with a copy of the DVD.
