Saluda recycling 13 times more this year than last

The City of Saluda is recycling 13 times more this year than last year. Saluda City Council met Sept. 11 and heard from commissioner Carolyn Ashburn, who said last year the city reported 12 tons of recycling and this year it reported 156 tons of recycled material. Ashburn said she thinks it’s partly because of new containers residents are using as well as using a new hauler.

Saluda late water customers total over $7k

During the Saluda City Council meeting on Sept. 11, commissioner Stan Walker said there is currently $7,288 past due to the city in water bills, which is 37 accounts with approximately $180 each due.

Saluda moves forward with CIP construction next year

Saluda City Council heard an update at its Sept. 11 meeting that McGill & Associates are still working on the city’s capital improvement plan, with plans to bid out 16 water and sewer projects after the first of the year. The city applied for a $1.9 million USDA loan in order to repair and replace water and sewer lines as well as repaving streets and bringing two-inch to six-inch lines to include fire hydrants. The city has increased water bills in order to repay the loan.
