Stearns’ top of the key

Many things have changed over past 100 years at Stearns School. Today’s photo is an image taken in 2013 when the Stearns Gym got its new flooring. When the original floor was lifted the “original” basketball court boundaries were uncovered on the sub-flooring.
Originally the lane underneath the basketball goal was only as wide as the backboard. Notice how the lane and foul line circle look like an old fashioned key hole. Hence the term often used in basketball called “top of the key.”
Stearns School is celebrating its 100th anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 7. Folks are invited to drop in from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. plus during school hours the following week.
If you have photos or memorabilia from your days as a student or parent at Stearns, please contact Bethene Garrett at 894-3051.
