Tryon Depot Exhibit: The Thursday Painters
The Tryon Depot at 22 Depot St. in Tryon will be featuring “New Paintings by The Thursday Painters” and the public is invited to the opening reception Friday, September 8, from 5-7 pm.
The Thursday Painters is a group of seriously playful watercolor artists who meet weekly at The Ferullo Fine Art Studio 140 Pacolet Street. They have been painting together since 2009, first meeting at the Introduction to Expressive Watercolor class at Isothermal Community College in Columbus.
Led by Patricia Cole Ferullo, the group tackles a new painting challenge every few weeks, painting and honing their creative abilities to bring about exciting new paintings, based on their approach to the challenge presented. The emphasis is on creativity with limited palette and a variety of tools to move the paint around the paper, sometimes pouring, sometimes making marks with twigs or the back end of the brush or fingers. Each of these artists has developed a recognizable style of working adding to the excitement of the exhibit.
Each artist creates paintings representing her perception of an emotion or objects thereby producing a work that mirrors her particular reality. Thus, paintings emerge covering a broad spectrum from semi-representational to total abstraction.
The Thursday Painters exhibiting their new works are; Linda Byington, Joan Feagan, Patty Holl, Susan Hopps and Harriet Spencer. Other class members include; Pilar Pace, Lanie King, Anne De Sutter and Judy Farr.
The exhibit can be seen during business hours Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. -5 p.m. until October 4. Please enter through the event entrance on the deck through the depot plaza.
