Simon Thompson to visit FENCE for a bird migration program

On Saturday, Sept. 2 from 9 to 11 a.m. FENCE will offer a free bird migration workshop led by local Ornithologist, Simon Thompson. Thompson, an expert in his field, leads birding tour groups all over the world as well as here in North Carolina. Join Thompson for a workshop at the FENCE center where we will explore the nature and mystery surrounding bird migration.

Our hummingbirds will be leaving soon to begin their journey to Central America and after every cold front more and more of our summer birds will be heading south. Fall is an exciting time of the year as millions of birds make this incredible journey. During this two hour workshop we will spend some time inside learning about the dynamics of migration; how and why these birds fly thousands of miles every year to breed or spend the winter. We will also spend some time in the fields and woodlands at FENCE to see what birds are coming through our area.

FENCE is located at 3381 Hunting Country Road in Tryon. For more information about this or upcoming events, contact FENCE at 828-859-9021, info@fence.org, or visit fence.org.
