Collins honored with Buck Preston Future Writer Award

Polk County Schools is honored to partner with Jean Preston and family to recognize an outstanding Polk County High School student each year with the Buck Preston Future Writer Award.

Buck Preston is a former English teacher and department chair at Polk County High School. He impacted innumerable lives during his tenure and inspired many students to pursue writing creatively. Preston passed away in January 2013.

In order to honor the contributions Preston made to Polk County High School and the many students he taught, Polk County Schools and the Preston family are excited to sponsor the Annual Buck Preston Future Writer Award. Students are encouraged to submit a creative writing piece to a panel of judges for consideration.

The student with the winning submission for the 2016-2017 academic year was PCHS student Luke Collins. Collins received $500 from the Buck Preston Memorial Fund, an award certificate and recognition at the PCHS Underclassmen Awards Ceremony.
