Virginia Ingraham Burr

Virginia Ingraham Burr, 96, of 615 Laurel Lake Dr., Columbus, died Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Tryon Estates. She and her husband moved to Tryon Estates from Keowee Key, S.C. in 1992.

Born in Atlanta, Ga. on February 14, 1921, she was the daughter of Henry Laurens Ingraham and Myrtle S. Ingraham. She was pre-deceased by her husband of over 50 years, Donald Harding Burr who died in 2003, and daughter Marilyn Burr Stelling, and son Donald Grant Burr.

She was a direct descendent of South Carolina Patriot Henry Laurens, President of the Continental Congress (1777-1778), and of Captain Duncan Nathaniel Ingraham, USN CSN, both of Charleston, S.C.

For many years, she was active in the performing arts, especially music, as a performer and facilitator in Atlanta, Hartford, Conn. and Ft. Myers, Fla. She was a founder of the Lee County Alliance of the Arts in Ft. Myers. She was a published book author (University of North Carolina Press), editor of several in house publications, and writer of newspaper and magazine articles, all non-fiction.

She was a member of Tryon Presbyterian Church since 1993 and active in the Tryon Estates community.

She is survived by grandchildren Kelly Murchison (Frank), Grant Stelling (Suzanne ), of Knoxville, Tenn., Robert Stelling, (Vicky) of Durham, N.C., Susan Beals (Rob) of Midlothian, Va., Geoff Burr (Danielle), of Arlington, Va., and several great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 2, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Tryon Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden, 430 Harmon Field Rd., Tryon, N.C.
