Dark Horse Theater Project presents an evening of theater at TFAC, August 22

At the stroke of 7 p.m. on a Friday, 12 notable playwrights enter a room with an unlimited supply of Starbucks.  Twelve hours later, they are led bleary eyed to a theater on Broadway where actors and directors eagerly await casting of their unedited masterpieces.  Curtains rise at 7 p.m. Saturday for a one night only performance.  It’s a high wire act for all, and amazing things happen.

The 24-hour play format has been enthusiastically adopted across the country and abroad and has become a wildly popular spectacle think “Survivor” for theater aficionados.

On Thursday, August 22 at 7 p.m., Dark Horse Theater Project will present its final evening for 2017 with a selection of four of the very best short plays by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning playwrights from the Naked Angels and 24 Hour Theater Company of New York.

In an attempt to simulate the excitement generated by these time sensitive events, nine extremely talented local (and not so local) actors will have had only a read-through and one rehearsal of their assigned scripts.  This is in keeping with the goal of spontaneity and freshness inherent in this type of ‘flying without a net’ creativity.

Please join us for an evening of surprising and provocative theater in the backstage space of the Veh Auditorium at Tryon Fine Arts Center. There is no ticket price, but donations will be gratefully accepted at the door. Beer, wine and refreshments are available for purchase.

The play runs 60 minutes.  Due to the creative seating arrangement, the evening will be limited to 60 audience members.  Reserve your seat by calling TFAC’s Kessler Box Office at 828-859-8322 or visit tryonarts.org.
