Nicole Danielle Zogbaum

World traveller, adventurer and dog-lover Nicole Danielle Zogbaum died at age 85 on August 9, 2017.

She was born July 31, 1932, in Perigueux, France. As the child of French resistance fighters, she witnessed firsthand the struggle against the German occupation of her country during World War II. After the war, she and her mother moved to Paris, where she eventually met her husband, David Zogbaum.

After their marriage, Nicole and David travelled throughout Europe, Southeast Asia and remote Pacific islands with their four children and a spirited pit bull named Bou Bou in tow.

The family came to the United States in 1968, settling in Tryon, N.C. After interludes in Montana, Colorado and Arizona – accompanied by a rotating cast of pampered canines – they returned to Tryon for their retirement in 1980s.

Nicole was predeceased by her husband and her son, Pierre M. Zogbaum.

She is survived by her three daughters, Dominique Bly, Christine Brown and Catherine Boyer; five grandchildren, Erik German, Malia German, Beau Gurie, Tee Jay Heath and Amber Boyer; as well as five great-grandchildren, Sophia and Lena German, Aubrey Winter, Eli Gurie and Heston Heath.

Following Nicole’s wishes there will be no memorial service. Her ” joie de vivre” will be sorely missed.
