Polk County High School’s gymnasium will have a new look for the 2017-18 school year thanks to a series of renovations performed this summer.

The most notable project has been an overhaul of the gym floor. The Sports Flooring Group has put the final touches on a remake of the gym, updating the logo at halfcourt as well as adding a new color scheme to the areas between the 3-point line and foul line on both ends of the court.

The Wolverine paw logo now adorns halfcourt, replacing the “PC” lettering that had been in place for many years.

Sports Flooring workers also stained the border around the court and areas within, giving it a distinct look.

Other renovations performed or planned for the gym include the addition of a Wolverine blue border around the entire gym; new roster boards, including the addition of boards for wrestling and volleyball; new wall padding on each end of the gym; and new seating for players and coaches.

Polk County athletic director Rex Wells said Wednesday that the gym would be open Monday for the Wolverine volleyball squads to hold practice. The first official event in the gym will be August 21 when Polk County hosts West Henderson in a non-conference volleyball match.
