Sixth annual back-to-school-bash Aug. 12

Published 3:59 pm Friday, August 4, 2017

With all the extremely hot weather we have been having lately, it’s hard to believe that summer will soon be coming to an end, and all the children will be headed back to school.

The good news is….it’s time for the annual “Back-to-School-Bash” at Tryon United Methodist Church!  Families throughout Polk County can join in the festivities of food and fun, while at the same time, receiving free school supplies and winter coats for their children.

The bash will take place Saturday, Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The members of Tryon United Methodist Church have been accumulating winter coats for school age children, and making donations to fund the purchase of school supplies including backpacks, folders, notebooks, etc. for the first 300 students to arrive at the church.  They also will be providing a free hot dog lunch with chips, a drink, and dessert.  And to add to the fun, the children will be able to enjoy snow-cones and cotton candy, as well as playing on the inflatable obstacle course and Ninja Slide.

Besides offering a day of food and fun for the community, Tryon United Methodist Church wants to help as many local families as possible by giving their children some of the things they need to have a successful school year.  Winter coats will be available to those who need them, as well as back-to-school haircuts.  A representative of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library will offer toddlers the opportunity to sign up to receive free books, and the Lions Club will be on site to give free vision screenings.

Tryon United Methodist Church is located at 195 New Market Road.  For more details about the “Back-to-School-Bash”, please call the church at 828-959-9218 or visit tryonumc.org.
