LANDRUM – The Landrum Police Department is warning the community to be careful when hiring people to do work or purchasing items through social media.

The police department sent out a post on social media with a warning to residents this week.

The department said people looking for items or needing work done using the social media groups should be careful.

“Be sure to vet folks that are going to work for you,” the notice said. “These are great places for scam artists to be lurking. Remember when purchasing items from those sites to be sure you’re getting what you are supposed to be and not stolen property. From our family to yours, please be vigilant.”
