Residents are invited to the event, which will be held in the parking lot, and will include a ribbon cutting for children to participate in.

A 0.75-mile hike will follow the ribbon cutting that includes a moderate hill, tunnels of rhododendron and mountain laurel, bridges and waterfalls.

The Kids in Parks program rewards children for going on fun-filled adventures outside. Families can find more than 150 TRACK trails across the country and earn free prizes by going on the trails and tracking them through the website kidsinparks.com.

“This will be a great addition to a wonderful park,” said Tryon Town Manager Zach Ollis. “The Kids in Park Track Trail program can help our children have a better overall experience on our trail while educating them.”

The kiosk at Woodland Park was recently installed by the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, which is handling some of the responsibilities of the Kids in Parks program.

Ollis said the kiosk at Woodland Park has been filled with pamphlets that educate participants on nature, animals and trail safety, among other things. The town plans to work with Tryon Elementary School this upcoming school year to educate local children on the program and to also plan field trips.

More information about the program, including how to sign children up, is available at kidsinparks.com.
