Local students will have the town laughing with their production of the comedy, “Action News: Now With 10% More Action!” performed at Tryon Fine Arts Center on Saturday, July 29 at 10 a.m.

The 30-minute play is presented by students participating in the annual theater summer camp led by Tryon Fine Arts Center and Tryon Little Theater.

TFAC Executive Director Marianne Carruth directs and Tryon Little Theater’s Jody McPherson heads up the technical needs of the performance. The team of camp staff and designers includes Maggie Reidy, Kate Reidy, Jamie Reidy, Lindsey Moore, Dietrich Jackson, and Grace Ingraham. They will pool their skills to create a full-scale performance in just one week.

The camp participants have their work cut out for them; the 22 students will help build sets, learn their lines, and battle stage fright to perform “Action News.”

The hilarious comedy written by Jonathan Rand is about an extreme news station that is keeping tabs on the apocalypse and covering crazy things from killer puppies and an elderly man’s thoughts.

“I look forward to this summer camp every year.  We give the kids a brand new script on Monday morning and they have a full show with lights and sound five days later.  I get to work with awesome kids and an amazing fun, creative and hardworking camp staff – and we all have a blast!” said Marianne Carruth.

“Action News: Now With 10% More Action” is presented free to the community on Saturday, July 29 at 10 a.m. at Tryon Fine Arts Center. No tickets are required for admission. More information is available at tryonarts.org.
