Polk sheriff’s office makes assault with a deadly weapon arrest

GREEN CREEK – The Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man this week on several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with the intent to kill, and larceny.
Charles Lee Lewis Rice, 51, of McEntire Rd., Tryon was arrested and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury with the intent to kill, larceny and possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.
Officers said during the afternoon of Thursday, July 13, they responded to a disturbance report on Chesnee Highway, in the Green Creek community of Polk County.
Officers were met with an injured male, Glenn David Holcombe, 58, of Swannanoa.
A short distance away, officers discovered Rice and learned the two were acquainted with one another, according to sheriff reports.
The sheriff’s office says Rice lured Holcombe to a rural driveway, where Rice assaulted Holcombe and robbed Holcombe of his wallet, a firearm and some cash.
Holcombe was transported to the hospital, treated and released, according to sheriff’s office reports.
Rice was still being held at the Polk County Jail under a $250,000 secured bond as of Friday, July 14.
The sheriff’s office is still investigating the case.
