SALUDA – Saluda City Council directed its attorney to research how the city can regulate drones.

During the recent Coon Dog Day, held in downtown Saluda on Saturday, July 8 this year, there were three drones flying, according to Saluda commissioner Mark Oxtoby.

Oxtoby said during last year’s Coon Dog Day there was one drone. This year there were three and the city was not aware there would be drones flying.

Oxtoby said one of them flew down the street during the play. He said if two drones had hit each other, the drones would have fallen onto people in the parade.

Saluda Mayor Fred Baisden said there are also Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations drones must follow.

Saluda attorney Jana Berg said she would need to do some research as to what the city can and can’t do regarding regulating drones, as this is a new issue. She said she would report back to council at the city’s next meeting.
