Learn the joys of volunteering at the Foothills Humane Society

According to a USA TODAY poll, a majority of pet owners say their dogs and cats “talk” to them. If you are one the many folks in the area who enjoy hearing “thanks” again and again, the Foothills Humane Society (FHS) is hosting a volunteer recruitment event for you on Saturday, July 15, at 9:30 a.m.

This is a no-obligation get-together to learn the joys of volunteering at a private, non-profit, no-kill shelter. You will get to meet the pets for a chat or two, tour the shelter, participate in a training class, and share laughs over good food with other animal lovers.

You’ll gain the necessary information to decide about joining a team that in 2016 saved and found homes for more than 800 animals surrendered, discarded, or rescued in Polk County, Landrum, Gowensville, and Campobello.

There’s no pay for sitting with kittens or walking a dog, dishing food or freshening water, painting a wall or mowing grass … but your donation of time would be priceless.

For more information, call 828-863-4444 or visit foothillshumanesociety.org. FHS is located at  989 Little Mountain Road, Columbus.
