Lights… Camera… Action! Local company Kangaroo Golf recently conducted a photo shoot on the grounds of Tryon Country Club for its new website and promotional materials. Kangaroo, which has been based in Columbus since 1972, produces motorized golf caddies for golfers who prefer to walk and play, but find carrying their bags or using a push caddie to be cumbersome. They offer both remote controlled and non-remote controlled models.

The all-Polk County effort was led by local photographer Christopher Bartol. Of the experience Bartol said, “It was a pleasure to work with the Kangaroo team. I was pleased to be walking the course again, where I used to caddie for my grandfather, knowing it was my great grandmother who donated the course to Tryon Country Club in 1916. Many thanks to Gerald Weathers and the staff at TCC for their support.”

The models for the shoot were local insurance agents Jesse Navarro, Trey Dusenbury, Ethan Waldman, and Renae Dusenbury Waldman. Dusenbury Waldman, who has modeled for Kangaroo Golf in the past, said, “I was happy to help Kangaroo showcase their automatic caddies in such a beautiful setting as Tryon Country Club- my home course. It’s always great to support local businesses and our community is so fortunate to have Kangaroo headquartered here.”

During the photo shoot, an uninvited guest was discovered on the 9th fairway. A huge snapping turtle was found lounging at the bottom of a hill, near a pond. “I just had to stop the shoot and check it out. It was the largest snapping turtle I had ever seen,” Bartol said. “I would think that if one wanted to look for golf balls in the pond, one should have second thoughts!” The presence of this amazing creature showcased the natural beauty of the course, undoubtedly one of the reasons that Tryon Country Club was the perfect location for such an event.
