Viewers select favorites at 2017 Landrum Quilt Show

Sybil Radius’ work entitled All in the Family received the Voters Choice Award at the 2017 Landrum Quilt Show on June 10.

Her queen-size creation also received a blue ribbon in the large machine-quilted category and a Vendor Award. She garnered another blue ribbon for her juvenile-themed quilt, Ellie.

Radius also won the Viewers Choice Award at the 2015 show.

For All in the Family, she cut up two large tablecloths she had inherited from her Aunt Syb. Originally made for Radius’ mother, the cloths featured a variety of embroidered designs in pinks and grays. She also incorporated some of the matching napkins and added complementary fabrics. She created another quilt show entry from a vintage tablecloth entitled Pretty Pink Posies.

Some 181 quilts of all sizes and quilted accessories were displayed at the show. Those attending were encouraged to vote for their favorites in 15 different categories. Twenty-nine quilters received a total of 59 ribbons, all made by LQ member Judy Gallman.

Other blue ribbon winners were Laurie Blair, Delia Dorn – two ribbons, Margaret Freedman, Judy Gallman, Elaine Hewitt, Diane Hollis, Judith Kuntz, Ruth Pollow, Jeanne Rist, Darlene Sanford, and Connie Wells, two.

Second place ribbons went to Laurie Blair, Emily Boisvert, Suzanne Brehm, Sue Burton, Betty Caudill, Phyllis Cole, Karen Cummings, Delia Dorn, Willa Garber, Maryanne Gilbert, Susan Gosnell, Diane Hollis, Judith Kuntz, Sybil Radius, Darlene Sanford, Christine Wilde.

Awarded third place ribbons were Laurie Blair – three; Delia Dorn – two, Jennifer Farshidmehr, Carol Hediger, Ellen Henderson, Diane Hollis, Ruth Pollow, Sybil Radius, Jeanne Rist, Connie Wells and Debbie Williams – two.

Sponsor ribbons also went to Delia Dorn from the City of Landrum; Deborah Mosley, Landrum Area Business Association, and Diane Hollis from the Spartanburg District One Schools.

Recipients of vendor awards were Emily Boisvert, Karen Cummings, Jennifer Farshidmehr, Ruth Pollow – three, Jeanne Rist, and Debbie Williams.

The Landrum Quilters sponsor the quilt show every two years, featuring the work of its members. Attendance at the 2017 show exceeded 1,100 with visitors from eight states. Delia Dorn and Kathie Hodges served as quilt show chairs.
