Samuel Rhinehart to receive Stuart Forbes Polk High Scholar Award

The board of directors for the Stuart and Margaret L. Forbes Foundation, Inc., is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2017 Stuart  Forbes Polk High Scholar Award.

This $4,000 renewable scholarship is awarded to a Polk County High School student who is strong and well-rounded, and who excels in a specific area of study or who demonstrates talent in a specific area such as fine arts education, science education, career education, healthcare, or environmental education.

The student is devoted to service oriented goals;  the student demonstrates a commitment to helping others; and, he/she  participates in school clubs and extracurricular activities.  The scholarship is awarded by the Stuart and Margaret L. Forbes Foundation and is administered by the Polk County Community Foundation.

Samuel Rhinehart  is an honor student at Polk County High. He has participated in a wide range of clubs and activities, including three years with the Interact Club, where he served as secretary/treasurer this year; and, also the Green Team. He has participated in Tuba Christmas and served as a videographer for the football and basketball teams.

A Duke Tip Scholar and junior marshal, Rhinehart helped form the Model Bridge Building  Team at Polk High and competed for six years with the Science Olympiad Teams at both middle and high school. He earned nine medals.

Rhinehart plans to attend the University of North Carolina Asheville and enter the joint engineering mechatronics program offered through North Carolina State University.  Students who complete the program receive a diploma that reflects both UNC Asheville and NC State University as granting institutions. Samuel is the son of Andy and Leslie Rhinehart of
Columbus, N.C.
