American Bison roam in Polk County? Yes!
Since 2002, Jerry Nelon and his wife, Robin, have been managing, breeding, bottle feeding, and herding about 100 American Bison on their Polk County farm.
You have probably seen them roaming on the westbound side of Hwy. 74 between exits 173 and 170.
Did you know that the American Bison was named the national mammal of 2016? As the largest mammals in the United States, these animals are deserving of the title.
On Saturday, June 24, you can experience these gentle giants up close by participating in the Polk Fresh Farm Tour. Get a personal guided tour to learn more about the bison herd and the other livestock that roam, crow, ‘baaa’, and squeal at Nelon Knoll Farm.
