PCHS AP Chemistry students visit schools to share knowledge

Each year, the AP Chemistry students at Polk County High School like to share what they have learned with younger students around the county, visiting middle and elementary school classrooms.
This year’s group was more than willing to develop differentiated lessons for both Polk County Middle School and Polk Central Elementary. The students shared their knowledge of acid-base chemistry (as well as Warhead candy), their knowledge of chemical reactions and how to make magnetic slime. They ended the lessons on combustions and a spectacular “Whoosh Bottle” demonstration.
“The students get better each year,” said Polk Central fifth grade teacher Andrea Walter of the AP Chemistry outreach program.
