A beautiful afternoon for golf and for a good cause – the 12th Annual Polk County High School Athletic Fundraiser couldn’t have fared much better.

Fifteen teams competed in the annual event, held this year at Bright’s Creek. All funds raised from the tournament benefit Polk County High School athletics.

The team of Hub Arledge, Will Ballard, Ron Bircher and Mike Bates won a card playoff to win the first flight, edging Fred Edwards, Jim Hemphill, David Foster and Polk County Schools Superintendent Aaron Greene.

A card playoff also settled the second flight, with Ronnie Reid, Terry Brock, Chuck Britton and Brandon Britton winning the flight over the team of Robert Cothran, Ronnie Murtagh, Lionel Gilbert and Ken Miller.

Winning closest to the pin contests were Lisa Kurjan, Glen Hanford, John Kinlaw and Jeremy Yoder.

“On behalf of Polk County Schools and all our athletic programs I would like to thank all the businesses, organizations and players who participated in this year’s tournament,” Greene said. “The donations and proceeds from this event help ensure Polk County students have the opportunity to participate in and benefit from high school athletics.

“Congratulations to the winners and thank you again to all who contributed to a wonderful day of golf in support of the Wolverines!”
