TLT sponsors youth theatre workshops

On June 12-16, young people ages 8-18 will have the opportunity to study with professional actors from RhinoLeap Productions who have been invited to present theatre workshops at the Tryon Little Theater’s Sunnydale, 334 South Trade Street, Tryon.

Classes for ages 8-11 will meet from 10-11:30 a.m., and those for ages 12-18 will continue from noon to 2 p.m.

During the week, students will work on acting techniques, stage movement, music and puppetry, including: Developing your character in a play; How to use your voice and how to move to convey the age and demeanor of your character; How to motivate your character’s movement onstage so it seems real to the audience; Following choreography in dance steps as well as in stage combat scenes; Working in musicals and the magic of illusion with puppetry.

Founded in 2015, RhinoLeap brings together actors, directors and designers from all over the U.S. to work with students and present professional productions in smaller towns, specifically in North Carolina.

Following this week of workshops for young people, RhinoLeap will present performances of Ken Ludwig’s adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ classic “The Three Musketeers” at the Tryon Fine Arts Center June 17 and 18.
